Paintings

Cheryl’s oil paintings can best be described as vibrant and colouful abstracts. They draw on a variety of natural and figurative sources. Influenced by some of the old modern masters such as Matisse, they communicate a joy both in the subject matter and the act of painting.

Cheryl has come to Kent from New York via London. She studied at the Art Students League under painters trained by the New York School artists. She has exhibited in Kent, New York, Arizona, Paris and Scotland.

Cheryl joined the White Shed art group and enjoys exhibiting with other White Shed members who have gathered in Folkestone to be part of the vibrant art community.

Her artwork expresses a deep passion for nature.  She builds richly layered compositions containing color, light and volumes derived from the natural environment. Dense and delicate use of color with inventive compositional planes is combined in the abstractions.

While in Scotland and Ireland, Cheryl enjoyed sketching the beautiful seascapes and rugged coastlines. Most paintings start with quick watercolour and/or gouache sketches done on location which are then turned into large abstractions in the studio.
